As parents, it is important for us to ensure that our child's vision is healthy and correct.

Good vision is crucial for a child's overall development and success in various aspects of life. Refractive errors, such as myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism, are common eye conditions that can affect children.


It is essential for parents to actively manage their child's refractive error to ensure healthy vision for life. In this blog, we will delve deeper into some top tips for effectively managing your child's refractive error.


1. Regular Eye Examinations:

Scheduling regular eye examinations for your child is vital to detect refractive errors at an early stage. These examinations, conducted by an eye doctor or an ophthalmologist, go beyond simple vision screenings and include comprehensive assessments of your child's eye health and visual acuity.


Regular check-ups can identify any vision problems and help determine the appropriate corrective measures. Early detection and intervention can prevent further deterioration of vision and promote healthy eye development.

Set reasonable limits on your child's screen time and encourage breaks to reduce eye strain.


The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no more than two hours of recreational screen time per day for children. Additionally, encourage your child to maintain a proper viewing distance from screens, usually around 18-24 inches away, and ensure the screen is positioned at eye level.

Encourage your child to take regular breaks during activities that require prolonged near focus, such as reading or using electronic devices. The 20-20-20 rule is helpful: every 20 minutes, have your child look at an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This break allows the eyes to relax and refocus, reducing strain. Additionally, simple eye exercises, such as focusing on distant objects and then shifting focus to something close, can help relax the eyes and reduce strain.
