Read more to know the Yoga positions you must avoid if you have glaucoma.
Yoga can be a great form of exercise and stress relief for people with glaucoma, but it is essential to be mindful of certain poses that may exacerbate your condition. Here are some yoga poses to avoid if you have glaucoma:
1. Inversions

Inversions are yoga poses that involve inverting the body, such as a downward-facing dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana), headstand (Shirshasana), and shoulder stand. While these poses can benefit some people, they are not recommended for those with glaucoma.
The increased pressure on the eyes that results from inversions can worsen symptoms and potentially lead to vision loss.
2. Twists

Twist poses, such as half lord of the fishes (Ardha Matsyendrasana) and revolved triangle (Parivrtta Trikonasana), involve rotating the head and neck.
These poses can put additional strain on the eye and increase intraocular pressure.
3. Forward folds

Like seated forward (Paschimottanasana) and standing forward bends (Uttanasana), forward folds involve bending the head down towards the legs.
While these poses can be calming and stretch the back muscles, they can also increase pressure on the eyes.
4. Backbends

Backbends, like camel pose (Ustrasana) and wheel pose (Chakrasana), involve arching the back. They can put extra strain on the eyes.
'It is important to consult your doctor before starting a yoga practice if you have glaucoma. They can help you modify poses or suggest alternative poses that are safe for your condition.'

Yoga can still be a beneficial form of exercise for people with glaucoma, as long as it is practised with caution and consideration for your specific needs.
