Visual Rehabilitation
Assessment and prescription of visual aids for patients with irreversible visual impairment.

Low vision services are focused on maximising functional vision in individuals with permanent visual loss that cannot be corrected with standard spectacles, medical treatment, or surgery. A detailed visual assessment is carried out to understand residual vision, contrast sensitivity, visual fields, and daily visual requirements.
Based on individual needs, appropriate low vision aids are prescribed, including optical, non-optical, and electronic devices for near, distance, and intermediate tasks. Patients are guided on the effective use of these aids for reading, mobility, occupational tasks, and activities of daily living.
The service also includes counselling, realistic goal setting, and follow-up to optimise device use and adaptation. Emphasis is placed on improving independence, safety, and quality of life through structured visual rehabilitation.
